One of the most common complaints I hear from hypermobile clients isn’t pain, it’s fatigue. Brain fog, low stamina, and feeling “wiped out” after even simple tasks are hallmarks of hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) and related conditions.

Fatigue and Brain Fog in Hypermobility: Why?

  • Energy leaks – Instability forces your body to use more energy on basic movements like standing or walking.
  • Poor sleep quality – Pain and autonomic dysfunction can disrupt deep sleep cycles.
  • Nervous system overdrive – Constantly monitoring unstable joints takes a toll on cognitive resources.
  • Comorbid conditions – Issues like dysautonomia or mast cell activation may layer additional fatigue on top.

How to Manage Fatigue and Brain Fog in Hypermobility

Managing fatigue means more than just “sleeping more.”

  • Pacing activities instead of pushing through.
  • Building strength to reduce energy leaks.
  • Using breathwork or mindfulness to calm an overactive nervous system.
  • Prioritizing recovery just as much as exercise.

Fatigue may be invisible, but it’s a real part of living with hypermobility, and with the right tools, it can become more manageable.
